Computers: How To Speed Up Your Point Of Sale With Ease

July 31st, 2009

Every business and retail unit has something called a point of sale unit, or in short a POS system. This is simply a location whereby the transaction process takes place. These were evolved from the mechanical cash register, which is still used in some smaller shops today. This can take a long time to type the price in remembering how much everything is, therefore, it is better to buy a system whereby everything is already saved in the system. Go to point of sale for more information.

You can speed things up slightly more with a point of sale system, which will also avoid problems with barcode scanning, credit card authorization and any other transactional process. The way it speeds it up is firstly by using the right good quality barcode scanner. This means finding a barcode scanner that can read the barcode in any direction. Some barcode scanners require you to hold them at a specific angle, this is not usually possible if you are in a hurry and can take a lot of time to have the item read.

Older barcode scanners have just one laser emitting, newer and good quality scanners have multiple lasers emitting at all angles making it much more efficient to use and saving time at the transaction process. These are called omni-directional scanners. Buying these kinds of barcode scanners will reduce the need to recalculate inventory errors and can check the customers items more accurately. These will reduce your transactional time drastically and calculate items within minutes.

For credit card transactions, it is best to replace any older equipment that you may have and purchase something that will read cards quickly without any connection problems. The way to do this is to upgrade everything or install credit card authorisation software onto your point of sale system with a broadband connection. This way the authorisation process will be completed within seconds rather than a few minutes. Refer to point of sale software for more information.

Touch screen equipments are good for fast selection of the products and calculating each item quickly. Each item can be recognised from pre-programmed images from an organised list of categories. Using a mouse takes a long time to find the product that you need, the same applies to using a keyboard as well. With a touch screen, you will not need to use anything else to select the products speeding up the point of sale process.

Always opt for the best good quality and long last software for the system, with regular maintenance and checks. This will ensure that there will be no problems of the system failing on you. It is always a good to have a backup plan in place just in case but you will rarely need to resort to this if you purchase good quality hardware and software systems. Some retailers and businesses choose to use systems that are more affordable and lower in quality. When these breakdown customers are left waiting and feeling frustrated they cannot end the transaction sooner.

This is never a good scenario for any retail business; therefore, it is advisable to purchase good quality systems. In order to make sure you have the best point of sale system in place, you must do your research beforehand and read up on the ones that have been almost always failsafe. Always consult with an expert and compare prices, quality and customer testimonials before you choose the software. Visit pos for further information.

Friendly Media Organic Evolution on Software Reviews

July 31st, 2009

These are my thoughts on the Evolution of “Cyber Street”. I have existing using and commercializing software reviews on the internet for over 12 years and have seen a lot of changes. There are zillions and billions of dollars floating out there on “Cyber Street” called the Net. On That Point are so many products, services and opportunities …some good, about not, but it’s still amazing.

I am staggering to be a part of this new “Cyber Street” culture where becoming a leader is more master than making the sale. People everywhere, approximately the world, are reckoning for a better way to live. They are reckoning for person to show them HOW.

Times have changed and with this variety the hominid soul is beginning to awaken and right instant on these changes coming about… Changes that make us feel total about what we do for ourselves and others.

Internet commercializing is not technology evolving so much as humankind is evolving. So many seem to have lost the feeling of fulfilment with their occupations, with their family life and their family relationships because of the money scheme that has been created.

Living to go to work each day to buy the goods we need to survive is not really living…it’s existing. We were fashioned to be thriving, growing, fulfilled and sharing.

Internet marketing is not only bringing us goods and services into our homes but also creating that sense of residential district that we have been impoverishing ourselves of because of fear or lack of time or whatever cause. It has also triggered the constructive and genius spirit of so many to ameliorate and make something hotter.

Because of the Net, social media is proper our biotic community. Masses need people to grow and thrive. We require that safe surround to share who we are. This is quite an a time to be living in.

With this shift of net cultural “rules” a deprogramming treat must be practiced. I liken it to the movie “The Matrix”. Many, many people still want to be disconnected from “the Matrix” and yet are trying to bring their old programed ways into this new arena of ethnic media.

5 Rules of Share Trading

July 29th, 2009

If you want to be victorious in share market, you have to plan some guidelines. And if you stick to these rules religiously, you will make money with stocks. Obviously you will most likely lose your money if you do not follow your own guidelines. Therefore I suggest you to follow these rules no matter what. You can go for stock trading software as an easier route. However sticking to your stock trading rules will certainly be worth during the long run, it is a discipline that will help you attain big wealth. Therefore go through the following guidelines before you enter the stock trading.

Stock Trading Guideline No 1: Master one Style of Trading.
Traders will have various share trading styles. Do not attempt to learn them all. You should continue improving and testing at the 1 system of share trading that will relate to you the most. Do not hop from one trading style to another. You should become an expert at 1 trading style rather than become average at executing several trading style.

Stock Trading Guideline No 2: Do not risk more than 3 percentage of your total portfolio on any single stock.
Protecting your initial capital is important if you want to trade stocks successfully. Remember that you are not trying to purchase the firm, you are only trading their stocks to make money.

Stock Trading Guideline No 3: If your forecast is wrong, cut your losses at 5% to 15%
This is very important. Many people commit the mistake of holding a losing trade while intelligent people will minimize their loses and move on. The vital rule here is to set stop losses and cut your losses if your assumptions went against you. Keep to your stop loss point and keep in touch about the performance of the share.

Stock Trading Guideline No 4: Always set price targets.
Prior to stock trading have price targets. Get out of the stock when you reach your target price and don’t be greedy. A share price can rise steeply too quickly and also can drop too fast.

Stock Trading Guideline No 5: Don’t break the rules.
Like I mentioned before you must stick to your own guidelines to make money in share market.

Similar guidelines are applicable in forex market as well. Today we you have access to auto forex trading robots like FAP Turbo software and numerous other applications. (See new Ivybot here.) But do not forget that following the rules is the key to success.

Lessons About the Importance of Training for Manufacturing Software

July 29th, 2009

In this article, I want to tell the story of a company that learned an expensive lesson when it came to implementing a new ERP software system. Despite the best intentions of the company, things did not go well and they ended up in worse shape than they began. Of course, the company name will not be revealed to maintain their privacy.

As the main focus of my job, on a daily basis I speak with a number of users of various construction and manufacturing software packages. In most cases, the users are not satisfied with their current system and come to me for advice on how to improve their performance with a new package. The majority of the time, they are correct and will benefit greatly from a more advanced software solution. However, in about 20% of the cases, the company that thinks they need new software are destined to be disappointed because they will fail to properly learn and train their employees how to use the new software. I find this to be true regardless of company size, specialization, or industry.

Several years ago, I worked with a medium sized contractor that focused on completing small jobs in small timeframes. The software they were using lacked a lot of the functionality that newer, more advanced software provided and was slowing down their productivity. They came to me for advice on selecting their next package.

Solving their problem seemed simple enough, they just needed to invest in a new manufacturing software package. So, I did some research for them and came across a system that wasn’t top-of-the-line but was more than adequate for their needs. We all sat in on some demos for the software and agreed that it was a great solution. After the demos were over and the company agreed that the software seemed like a good fit, the upper managers in the company decided to have their primary accounting person give the software a “test drive” to test it’s functionality in relation to their needs. However, the fast pace of the company didn’t allow this person enough time during their normal day at the office, so it meant that any trials had to be done after work hours.

To compound the problem, nobody in the company’s upper management offered to help this individual with this ardous task. Since the assignment was way out of the individual’s skill set and knowledge-base, more than a years time passed with little to no progress. Finally, after two years, the company decided to purchase the software and install it. They completed some introductory, basic training for their end-users and went live with the new system. However, since their staff was not very technologically-inclined (and wasn’t properly trained), they decided to continue to use their old system in parallel with the new system for an entire year. Why? Because nobody within the company was willing to take the necessary steps to learn the new software and train the users how to properly manage it. Therefore, they essentially doubled their workload for these employees for a whole year out of useless fear.

However, this story does teach us all several key lessons. First, upper management was not involved in the software selection and implementation from the beginning, despite the need for them to be involved. Key managers need to be present at all meetings and training sessions so that they can be the internal driving force behind the switch to new MRP software. If they don’t know what is going on, how can they pitch in and keep things on track? Their lack of involvement led to another problem – the choice of the accounting person to learn the system and train the company. Instead of choosing the person that is best qualified to do these things, they chose the person that they thought would be the most convenient, and cost themselves 3 years of productivity gains as a result. Since there was no involvement from upper management, it was later learned that a number of staff employees opted to skip the training sessions since they didn’t appear to be important to management.

The bottom line is that new software will only be as good as the people that use it. And the people that use the software will only be as good at using the software as they are trained and motivated. For any software switch to be successful, all key members of the company must be involved and management must ensure that proper training and motivation are provided.

Train Your Manufacturing Erp Software Users to be Successful

July 25th, 2009

The word “potential” is rarely used to describe the amount of success that implementing new software can have on a business. Many companies assume that they’ll be able to purchase and install new software and that they will immediately have new found success as a result. Unfortunately, this is rarely the reality. The truth is that the best ERP software in the world is only as good as the people that use it. In turn, the people that use the software are generally the best suited to use the software if they are properly trained.

The problem or concern is the fact that data can be input, edited, and processed any number of ways. Depending on what you’re talking about (project management, financial accounting, or more specialized applications), systems will vary drastically, so even those trained in old packages must be retrained when new software is purchased.

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that the quality of training and implementation may actually be more important than the software itself!

So how do you get the training that your end-users need?

For the most part, there are three main ways that vendors offer training on their products. Of course, training can also consist of a combination of the following three methods, but for the purpose of this article, I will focus only on the following three training methods:

There are three basic modes of training offered by most vendors:
1) On site (you company’s office)
2) At the vendor’s facility
3) Online, or a combination of online and one of the above.

On site (user location)

The main argument for on-site is simply that your company location is where the MRP software is going to be used and it makes most sense to train people in their home environment. You can also “read” people better as to how they are catching on to the new software?as well as their openness to new software. There is total focus on you and communications between staff are optimal when questions come up as they always do. You can also have hands on access to old reports, information, etc that is needed for setup and training. If you are away at a vendor’s location and only certain staff is there for training, it’s a lot more difficult to, say, get answers from executive management on how certain things must be done.

Additionally, a number of decisions must be made during the initial software setup that are much easier to accomplish when training takes place on-site. Things like job-cost or project-cost coding, payroll accounting, and purchase order tracking are good examples. A number of these decisions require specific information, which is, of course, much more readily available at the headquarters of the business that plans to use the software.

However, on site training has some disadvantages, namely cost and time lost. Since representatives from the vendor have to travel to your office, the training is usually scheduled for multiple consecutive days to accommodate their travel. This can be overwhelming to staff who will be short on time to complete their necessary daily tasks. Several days in a row of training also can result in a burn out where people don’t absorb the required information from the numerous back to back training sessions over a multi-day session.

Vendor headquarters

Some vendors will not give you the option to do the training at your location and will require that you go to their headquarters for training. This can be successful if all key personnel are involved in the training and that the company can afford to pay for all their travel expenses. The vendor’s technical staff will be available if and when difficult questions come up.

Additionally, completing training away from home has the advantage of reducing the distractions that arise at the corporate headquarters.

Online Training

The final option is to complete the new software training online. This has the main advantage of being flexible in regard to scheduling the training sessions. Training can be scheduled when it won’t interfere with staff’s daily responsibilities and can be spread out over a longer period of time. Online training also allows users to advance through the training at their own pace – only moving on after they’ve mastered the previous principles and techniques.

In the end, there is not rule for determining which training method is best for your company since they can all be useful ways of preparing company personnel for software success. They key to making it all work is unqualified employee and management commitment based on realistic expectations of what has to be done and allocating the necessary resources to do it. You may also consult ERP software comparison for recommendations for the best training for the software package that you plan to use.

Construction Management Software Can Help Small Businesses As Well

July 24th, 2009

Construction software is not just for the construction giants!. construction accounting software is for the little guys too! The local lawn service provider who hires summer help, and might have 20-30 customers to provide services for or the guy who plows out residents and local businesses during winter and other similar operations, can all benefit from construction software functionality.

However, for many smaller companies, the concern isn’t whether or not they can benefit from construction software but rather whether the investment is worth it. Of course, there is not general rule of thumb that can be used to make this decision and companies interested in pursuing a new software solution should conduct a thorough review of their options and make a decision about whether they will get the return they need to make the investment a sound one. A similar concern arises in smaller companies who fear that they simply don’t have as much to gain from a new software package. But, the bottom line is that today’s software can help automate key processes that can save any company, large or small, both time and money.

However, if you can only get the automation that you desire with new software after drastically changing existing company processes, it may not be the right time to implement a new system. Instead, begin the process of restructuring your business to be more in line with known best-practices. This process may take a while and will require patience and planning. However, if done properly, when your company upgrades to a better software system, the implementation will be much smoother and you will be able to “hit the ground running.”

The little guys usually manage quite well in their own ways. Perhaps they use an Excel spreadsheet, or an Access database, or maybe a small-business management software package. There are inexpensive, quite user-friendly, and even quite functional small-business software packages available; some even include functions aimed specifically for construction companies.

As such, these little companies likely won’t benefit from high tech features available in some MRP software packages, such as RFID tagging and advanced real-time reporting. Most small construction companies manage just fine using their own software or smaller construction software packages.

So, the decision of whether or not to upgrade ultimately comes down to a classic cost/benefit analysis. Will the benefits that the software gives you outweight the cost of purchasing it, installing it, training users, maintaining the system, and altering any necessary processes? It’s quite likely that a number of companies will find the answer to that question to be “no.” However, reviewing construction accounting software reviews and asking yourself this question forces you to look closely at your operations, record keeping, and so on in a way that may shed light on ways to improve the use of your current software, even if you decide that new software is not needed or worth it. The worst case is that you decide not to get the software, but you still have the benefits and knowledge gained from completing an internal audit.

Construction software for the little guys is likely to be a welcome adjunct to the little guy construction company atmosphere, since many of the smaller construction companies in the US operate from individual’s homes. If they have construction software taking their phone calls, keeping track of customer accounts, tracking expenses, and so on, their home might be more comfortable and more of a home, and they might even have more time to enjoy the freedom of operating a home-based business as well!
